The students had just arrived at Unmei High and were brought to the auditorium. The staff sits in a row on stage, introducing themselves one by one. A mid-aged man steps up to the podium.

"This year, like all others, I see both new and old faces in the crowd." he says, as if reading from a card "I am Mr. Hideyoshi, the principal. I hope I won't have to see any of you in my office this year."

He chuckles, trying to get the students into his speech, a failing effort. He clears his throat "Now, onto homerooms."

The principal turns and motions to a few of the teachers behind him before turning back to the mic.

"Family names 'A' through 'H', follow Mr. Itagaki." he says as a skinny man wearing a black turtleneck and blue jeans, hair spiked, stands up and walks to the left side of the stage.

Mr. Hideyoshi waits for all the students to leave with Mr. Itagaki for the band room before continuing.

"Family names 'I' through 'P', follow Mr. Chou." an elderly bald man in a dress shirt and dress pants rises and walks to the right side of the stage, with his hands behind his back as the principle finishes.

The students with names 'I' through 'P' leave with the uptight grammar teacher for his classroom.

"Last but not least, family names 'Q' through 'Z', follow Mr. Mikawa." a bespectacled man with an untucked and sloppily buttoned dress shirt and jeans stands and hobbles over to the edge of the stage, leading his students to the Math room.

The 2008 year at Unmei High had begun...
